The M&T Expo takes place every three years in the Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paolo. From the 2nd to the 6th June 2009, Hirschmann Automation and Control attended the exhibition and presented its Scalable Mobile Control System (SMCS) to the Latin-American market for the first time.

And another premiere took place in Italy: GIS (GIORNATE ITALIANE DEL SOLLEVAMENTO), the first trade show specifically for cranes and lifting platforms in Italy took place in Piacenza from the 11th to the 13th June 2009. In cooperation with its Italian partners Parenti and CSA, Hirschmann presented the advantages of SMCS in addition to Retrofit Systems and Wireless Sensors.

Strict legal safety requirements for man and machine are a standard worldwide. Hansjörg Kneubühler, Head of Sales and Service with DISA Elektro AG, Switzerland, recounts a current example for best practice: the necessary retrofitting of a fleet of 41 Bendini rail cranes which are in tough constant operation for Swiss Rail (SBB).

The legally conformed use of safety aligned controls with PL d according to EN IEC 13849 or SIL-2 according to ISO 61508 requires a diagnostic capability of digital inputs recognizing more than “0” and “1”. Hirschmann’s SMCS delivers the solution.
